Just a short time before we took that picture, we met a couple driving through Wendover, NV (a few miles west of Bonneville) in a salt-encrusted car. They said they had got it up over 100 mph on the salt flats – “You really should get out there in that Mini!” he says. I told him that where I come from, we take special care to keep our cars OUT of the salt. He asks, “Where’re you from? Do they use a lot of salt there?” “Rochester, NY.” “Oh, we’re from Putnam County [lower Hudson Valley],” he says. “And this is just a rental car!”
